Boanerges: Children of Thunder! began as Truth: Word Up! in 2020 in response to the dearth of culturally responsive literature in the classroom. Boanerges: Children of Thunder! is based on the premise our history shapes our future. Boanerges particularly emphasizes the history of African Americans with plans to incorporate the history of other disenfranchised populations. Boanerges is designed to increase minority students’ presence, voices, and participation in education by providing them creative opportunities to express their cultural histories in an online platform where students choose the media with which to express themselves.
